The clock is running out on a popular perk for Claude Code users. Today, July 19, 2026, Anthropic's limited-time promotion that raised weekly usage limits by 50% comes to an end. After 11:59 PM PT tonight, limits return to their normal levels. Nothing else about your plan or billing changes. Here's what developers need to know before the boost disappears.
From Research Preview To Developer Staple

Claude Code has come a long way in a short time. Anthropic launched it on 24 February 2025 as a research preview, alongside Claude 3.7 Sonnet. It started as an internal experiment. According to CEO Dario Amodei, half the company was using it within two weeks.
Since then, it has grown into a full platform. Claude Code now runs across the terminal, IDE extensions, a desktop app, and the web. It works as an agentic coding assistant, meaning it can read your codebase, write code, run commands, and handle git workflows. Developers set up project context through a CLAUDE.md file, which teaches the agent their preferences and conventions.
The pace of updates has been relentless through 2026. The “Code with Claude 2026” conference in San Francisco introduced managed agents, routines, and a new Advisor tool that pairs Opus as the advisor with Sonnet as the executor.
Early July added a built-in desktop browser, better diagnostics, and safer auto-mode features. Claude Code now sits on top of Anthropic's model ladder, which includes Claude Fable 5, Opus 4.8, Sonnet 5, and Haiku 4.5.
What The Boost Was, And Who It Covered
The promotion began on 13 May 2026. It gave paid users 50% higher weekly usage limits inside Claude Code, across every supported environment.
Here is how it worked:
Eligible plans: Pro, Max, Team, and legacy seat-based Enterprise users
Not eligible: Free plans and consumption-based Enterprise seats
No action needed: the higher limit applied automatically
Scope: Claude Code only, not the Claude web, desktop, mobile apps, or Cowork
Ends: 19 July 2026 at 11:59 PM PT
Anthropic confirmed the extension through its official account on X:

The timing is no accident. Claude Code faces a crowded market. OpenAI runs Codex on its GPT-5.6 family, Google offers Antigravity and Jules on Gemini 3.5 Flash, and xAI joined in mid-July with the open-source Grok Build. Promotions like this help keep developers on the platform.
Once the boost ends tonight, your weekly limits simply return to standard. If you have a big task planned, it may be worth running it before the deadline. After that, you keep working within your normal quota, or top up with usage credits if your plan supports them.
