Stability AI co-founder Emad Mostaque has issued a stark warning about the potential impact of AI on jobs. He is predicting that significant AI job losses will begin as early as 2026. Speaking in a podcast with Dr Myriam Francois, Mostaque outlined a future where AI technology overtakes human workers, sparking widespread unemployment and potentially leading to societal chaos.
The Rising Threat of AI Job Losses
According to Mostaque, AI job losses will escalate rapidly starting in 2026, with significant increases in unemployment following shortly thereafter. The technology, which has been improving steadily, will soon reach a point where it becomes not just useful but economically superior to human labour. Mostaque predicts that the pace of job displacement will surpass anything seen in previous technological shifts.
In the podcast, Mostaque explained that AI agents, which can handle complex tasks without fatigue, errors, or the need for breaks, will soon be capable of taking over a wide range of jobs. As AI becomes more cost-effective, running a digital worker could cost less than $1,000 a year, making it irresistible for companies to replace human workers.

- Graduates will be first affected: Youth unemployment is expected to rise sharply as AI takes over entry-level and mid-level positions.
- AI’s impact on job sectors: Jobs that can be done “on the other side of a screen” will be most vulnerable to AI automation.

Billionaires Preparing for the Fallout
Interestingly, while ordinary workers may face job losses, Many of Silicon Valley’s billionaires are reportedly preparing for a crisis. Mostaque notes that tech elites, including AI CEOs, are already retreating from the public eye, anticipating backlash as AI disrupts the economy.

In a chilling twist, some billionaires are said to be building bunkers in anticipation of societal unrest. For example, reports have emerged about Mark Zuckerberg constructing a large, fortified estate in Hawaii, complete with an underground bunker designed to withstand a doomsday scenario. Other tech moguls, like Peter Thiel and Sam Altman, are also investing in remote properties equipped with survival supplies.
Mostaque warns that without transparent, democratic governance of AI, society could face significant inequality and unrest. He believes that the coming “thousand-day window” is critical to ensuring AI development benefits all of humanity, rather than exacerbating existing social divides.
