Palmier Pro Launches: a Video Editor Claude Can Actually Edit, Open Source and Mac Native

The quick version:

  • Palmier Pro is a Mac video editor where AI agents like Claude can trim, reorder, and generate footage directly on the timeline.

  • The editor and its MCP server are open source under GPLv3, and the editor is free with no account needed.

  • It is available now from palmier.io, built natively for macOS by YC-backed startup Palmier.

What launched

Palmier Pro Launches: a Video Editor Claude Can Actually Edit, Open Source and Mac Native

Palmier, a Y Combinator company founded by Marcos Rico Peng and Harrison, shipped Palmier Pro today. It is a full video editor built from scratch in Swift, but the headline is that it was designed for AI agents to operate, not just humans. Connect Claude and it can read your project, cut clips, reorder the timeline, and generate new footage in place.

Why this one is different

Plenty of tools bolt AI on as a feature. Palmier made AI generation a core part of the timeline itself, tracking the prompt, model, and references behind every clip so you can regenerate a shot without leaving the editor. The team says they used it to produce more than 15 cinematic launch videos for other YC companies before releasing it.

The catch worth knowing

The editor and MCP server are open source and free, but the generative AI processing is closed source and runs on credits. So you can use it as a plain editor like CapCut or Premiere for nothing, and only pay when you generate.

The reaction on X has been fast, with a lot of editors curious whether an agent can really handle a timeline. Follow @Palmier_io for updates.
